San Diego Padres outfielder Cameron Maybin has been suspended 25 games for violating Major League Baseballs joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Maybin tested positive for an amphetamine on Wednesday In a statement Padres manager Bud Black said "Our club fully supports Major League Baseballs Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Cameron has accepted full responsibility for his violation and apologized to his teammates and coaches. We are all looking forward to his return." Team President and CEO Mike Dee also said "Im disappointed in Camerons violation, but am pleased that hes taking responsibility for his mistake. The Joint Agreement was put into place to protect both the player and the game, and the Padres fully support it." The suspension will be effective immediately and Maybin wont be eligble to join the Padres active roster until August 20th. The 27-year-old was suspended without pay. In 62 games so far this year Maybin was hitting .247 with one home run and nine runs batted in. Maybin has spent eight years in the MLB. Originally drafted in the first round by the Detriot Tigers in 2005, the centrefielder has played the last four seasons in San Diego. Maybin previously had stints with the Tigers and Florida Marlins.
